what do i know

i've read a whole lot on babies these past few months.  mainly because i don't know anything about them, but God still found it to be a good idea to gift me one, and i feel that i should be a good steward.  well, that, and i've been very interested in finding out how to get the baby to sleep well...  so that i can sleep well.  i'm a researcher by nature, hungry for knowledge about anything and everything (except for politics), and i would love to find out more about little Mo, but he has yet to be able to share with me his thoughts on his own.

anyway, one thing i looked up the other day was whether it was okay that the little guy kept his thumbs tucked in the palms of his hands.  he was picking up things between his pointer and middle fingers.  i wondered if i needed to do therapeutic exercises with him or something.  like a neurotic mom.  i found out through blogs of other neurotic moms that it was a condition called thumb-in-hand and that if it didn't resolve by 7 months or so, the child could have a language delay.  oh no!!  my child will be unable to talk until he's a teenager!

lo and behold, the very next day, he was using his thumbs like a pro.  and even holding on to objects with both hands (he hadn't been doing that much).  he's now sitting next to me, using his newly-found thumb to press the caps lock button as i type.

in related news, i found little guy sucking his thumb when i went in to get him up from his nap this afternoon.  it somehow made my heart swell with pride.  i love that little guy.

love,
mo momma
